The Boobs and Butt Pose

For people that read commentary on comics/pop culture, the boobs and butt pose is not something that would be considered “new.” It is a long-lived way for females to be posed on the covers of comics, movies, books, etc. They are placed in a position that is awkward at best, potentially even impossible poses, allowing both their boobs and butt to be prominently displayed. These sexualized poses are not something that surprise me anymore, but today on Reddit I saw the image below, which I found greatly amusing, asking what the Avengers poster would look like if the male characters were posed like Black Widow.

Avengers

Unsurprisingly, there were quite a few comments that appeared on the post. The top ranked post at this time of writing, by VonAether, provides links to other butt pose movie posters. Many other top comments are laughing about the image or pointing out other things about it. However, not too far down appeared a comment from the user Thunder_Bastard (I know, catchy name) who stated “Guys have muscle for sex appeal, women have the body. The woman is showing her stuff, every guy in the picture is showing theirs.”

I’ll give that a moment to sink in.

They are essentially claiming that men being in the standard heroic poses is the same thing as a woman showing off her “assets.” Wow. But, I can’t say I was honestly surprised to see comments like this one. As soon as something that is somewhat chauvinistic is pointed out, the dudebros are more than happy to jump in and give their opinion. It does make me happy that it was down a little ways, at least.

I’ll wrap this up with one more image to summarize.
